Friday Night Gap Fire Update

11:30 pm

Photo taken at 6:40pm July 4, 2008

It was a much quieter night today. The air down here stayed calm. There is no smoke or ashes currently; we can see the stars right now. The winds were calmer tonight than last night, and the forecast calls for some more moisture coming into the area in the next few days.

It felt calmer tonight also because we had power. We had a 5-minute outage a couple times early in the evening.

We had ash floating down earlier in the day. Here is a burned leaf that Erin found.

An oak tree is missing its leaves!

There is a new evacuation order that was just announced, but it is way to the west of us. There has been no news in our area.

In other news, there were multiple gang stabbings at the beach right before the fireworks show started. Mike is due to get off at 3:00am. I hope he is able to get off on time.

I'll update again in the morning!

Mike did get off on time, though he spent a couple hours at a buddy's house after work, so didn't get home until about 5:30am.

No rain in the forecast, but possibly marine layer moisture in the mornings. That is what I meant by "moisture" in the weather forecast. We'll take moisture any way we can!
